Advisors and Officers

The student farm was established by students dedicated to learning about and advocating sustainable agriculture, and has received support from faculty, staff, and community members.

Dr. Joe Novak, a senior lecturer with 28 years teaching experience in the Department of Horticulture, has been advising and guiding the student farm since its inception.

Dr. Steve King, a faculty member in the Department of Horticulture, teaches commercial vegetable production and serves as advisor to the student farm.

Dr. Joe Masabni, the vegetable specialist for Texas AgriLife Extension Service, has been involved by incorporating extension activities into the student farm and departmental courses in vegetable production.

SASA is now helping maintain the student farm so support is also being provided by both undergraduate and graduate students.

Brady Grimes serves as the President of SASA and Farm Manager.

Jose Franco, a graduate student in Ecosystem Science and Management, serves as the vice president of SASA and is the primary contact for student research projects.

Nathanael Proctor, a graduate student in Urban and Regional Sciences and head of the Brazos Valley Locavores, serves as the treasurer for SASA and is the student farm’s administrator, managing its sales and accounts.

Patrick Lillard, a graduate student in Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications and region director for Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, serves as the IT officer and manages the website.

Desiree Koehn, a graduate student in Molecular and Environmental Plant Sciences serves as the Secretary of SASA and is helping with website construction and management.
